Our
Competitors Recycle Only Half the Mercury!
Don't
contribute to mercury pollution through improper lamp recycling.
Only Bethlehem Lamp Recycling's Program offers full mercury
recovery in fluorescent lamp recycling - how can that be?
The answer
is in the glass - mercury in the glass. According to studies
by the major fluorescent lamp manufacturers, 50% of the mercury
in a lamp is adsorbed by the glass during the normal life
of the lamp. Other recyclers only treat the phosphor powder
contained inside the lamp tube. Unfortunately the glass still
contains up to half of the original mercury in the lamp.
When heated in conventional recycling processes it results
in "AN UNCONTROLLED MERCURY RELEASE TO THE ENVIRONMENT".
The whole
purpose of lamp recycling is to prevent mercury releases to
the environment -- especially an airborne release, which is
the major cause of mercury contamination in lakes and rivers.
